Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into the body at specific points to regulate the body’s energy and bring it into balance. This ancient procedure has also been shown to be effective in the treatment of specific health problems. Conditions such as chronic illness, allergies, and high blood pressure are just a few that can be successfully treated with acupuncture. Acupuncture is just one branch of a full system of Oriental Medicine, which also includes Herbal Medicine, Tui Na (muscular and joint manipulation), Nutrition and Qi Gong (meditation and energy work).

For thousands of years, the Chinese and other eastern peoples have used acupuncture as part of a complete system of medicine to restore, promote and maintain good health. Central to concepts behind acupuncture is the idea that the body is self-healing. That as living beings we are all naturally and unconsciously being rebalanced and regenerated from within. An acupuncturist sees the body as a self-rectifying dynamic whole with networks of interrelating and interacting energies. The energy’s even distribution and flow maintains health, but any interruptions, depletion or stagnation lead to disease. Acupuncture, as part of a system of medicine, seeks to aid the natural processes, helping the body to correct itself by a realignment or redirection of energy. The aim is to restore the proper flow of Qi (pronounced Chee), the body’s energy or life force. This flow can be controlled using needles at various points along the meridian systems, which network the body.

It requires years of training and an understanding of the full scope of Oriental Medicine to effectively treat a person using acupuncture.
